Our team loves fall conference season: we just got back from Las Vegas for TLU Live and Atlanta for the Crisp Game Changers Summit, and the energy from these events was incredible. In our fall 2022 legal industry events recap, we’re covering these two conferences that were packed with education, inspiration, and fun.

Curious how this year’s events compared to last year? Check out our fall 2021 legal events recap!

TLU Live Vegas

Once again, the turnout at TLU Live Vegas was outstanding. We were glad to be back with Dan Ambrose of Trial Lawyers University for a legal industry event packed with knowledge-sharing and educational tracks from the top “who’s who” of trial attorneys from across the country, including Benedict Morelli, Joe Fried, Rex Parris, and many more.

Lawyers attended sessions that covered every aspect of a trial, from cross-examinations to opening and closing statements. There were also sessions on specific focus areas such as traumatic brain injuries and truck accidents. In all, attendees left TLU Live Vegas armed with the necessary skills to excel at trial.

Director of Business Development Rob Coleman had the privilege of attending two sessions taught by Benedict Morelli of Morelli Law, who is not only a successful attorney, but an excellent teacher as well.

And at TLU Live Vegas, attendees don’t just learn valuable business skills. The networking and social events are always a highlight. Being that the event took place over Halloween weekend this year, a costume contest stole the show, with attendees dressing up like our favorite insurance company mascots. We always appreciate attorneys with a good sense of humor!

Crisp Game Changers Summit

The Crisp Game Changers Summit is always a show-stopper. This year, Crisp leveled up and the event was at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Our own Jason Hennessey, Rob Coleman, and Cindy Kerber Spellman were there for the experience.

Over the course of the two-day conference, attendees had the pleasure of listening to a stellar lineup of speakers, from Crisp Video founder Michael Mogill to former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary, and founder of the Savannah Bananas baseball team, Jesse Cole.

If you’re looking for a conference to network with legal legends and industry experts, Crisp Game Changers Summit is where you need to be. We love attending this conference because it’s such a high-value, high-energy event with no expense spared in its production.

Crisp is dedicated to creating an unforgettable experience for attendees each year, from a VIP experience of world-class speakers to elite entertainment. What could be better than closing out the conference than a Boyz II Men concert?

Be On The Lookout

2022 is nearly over, but we’re going to be at select must-attend events before year’s end. Keep an eye out for Hennessey Digital at the Business of Law and the ATAA Board of Regents Retreat in the coming weeks.

And be on the lookout for our new booth—it’s turning heads at legal industry conferences and events already!

The fall iteration of Mass Torts Made Perfect (MTMP) happened earlier this month, and it was another fantastic time in Vegas for one of the top law firm conferences and events of the year.

Scott Shrum, David Dismuke, and Jason Hennessey

What is MTMP?

MTMP is shorthand for Mass Torts Made Perfect (MTMP) and is one of our favorite semiannual legal industry events. Mass Torts Made Perfect is the premier conference for plaintiff attorneys to connect and learn about the latest mass tort and class action lawsuits.

Each fall and spring, attorneys and paralegals have a full agenda of educational tracks at MTMP to learn about mass tort projects, the business of law, trial skills, and more.

education session at MTMP

Lawyers, paralegals, and industry partners gather at MTMP in Las Vegas to learn the latest news and strategies, network, and socialize. And as was the case at MTMP last fall, the social events and caliber of speakers this time around were phenomenal.

Who we saw at MTMP

This time around at MTMP, baseball legend Derek Jeter delivered an impressive talk during a lunchtime session on mindset and what it takes to win. As a lifelong Yankees fan, our President & COO Scott Shrum particularly enjoyed Jeter’s speech. It certainly got the audience fired up!

On one evening of the conference, comedian Nate Bargatze entertained the crowd with a great set. It’s become MTMP tradition to have a comic one night, which our intrepid Director of Business Development Rob Coleman loves.

comedian Nate Bargatze

Our Director of Sales Brian Mossman met with John Gomez and business of law expert Dean Chase and his wife Liz Zwibel, a dominant force in women’s law. He also met with law firm owners and attended private events put on by legal industry leaders, including an event hosted by Don Worley, who’s known for throwing the best parties at MTMP.

Key takeaways from MTMP Fall 2022

Because MTMP is solely focused on mass torts, this conference attracts heavy-hitting attorneys who want to learn how to maximize their time and efforts in the right areas.

These are our main takeaways from MTMP fall 2022:

  • Camp Lejeune is still the biggest mass tort out there. Paraquat was the big mass tort in 2021; now Camp Lejeune is dominating law firm marketing . Attorneys only have two years from the date the Camp Lejeune Justice Act was passed by Congress to file a claim, so it’s a race against time.
  • Lawyers can be doing a lot more to market themselves, especially with the time sensitivity of filing Camp Lejeune claims. Because it’s difficult to target the actual victims, the focus is now on reaching the spouses and family members. With limited time, paid media and targeted PPC campaigns are the focus to find more Camp Lejeune leads before the statute expires.
  • “Be mad every time you lose.” Derek Jeter’s talk was one of our MTMP highlights, and for good reason. This group of attorneys wants to win, and Mass Torts Made Perfect is where they come to learn how.

Final 2022 legal industry events

MTMP is an action-packed favorite and was the perfect follow-up to the Legal Marketing & Management Summit last month.

Several more key law industry events happen in the fall, and we’ll be at Trial Lawyers University in Vegas, the NTL Business of Law event in Scottsdale, and the ATAA Board of Regents retreat, also in Scottsdale.

And that’s not all: our dance card is full through the end of 2022, so watch for Hennessey Digital at legal industry events through December.

Once again, the city of Austin welcomed lawyers from around the country to town for the ATAA Annual Symposium. Our Director of Business Development Rob Coleman and I were at the event alongside attorneys and enjoyed learning more about their firms and unique challenges.

We also learned why ATAA is the best place to become a better truck accident lawyer.

Liz Feezor and Rob Coleman at Hennessey Digital's booth

What is ATAA?

ATAA is shorthand for the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys. It is the top resource for lawyers focused on truck accident cases.

Founded by leading truck accident attorneys Michael Leizerman and Joe Fried, and led by Executive Director Lori Tepper, ATAA gives lawyers access to the education, resources, and network of successful attorneys to help grow their businesses.

ATAA 2022 conference highlights

Like the ATAA Truck Accident Lawyers Bootcamp we attended this spring, the ATAA organization executed another great event. The education tracks were well-attended for attorneys and paralegals, and the social outings (and food!) were outstanding.

On the first night of the conference, Hennessey Digital sponsored a private dinner for the ATAA Board of Regents. Joe Fried had some wonderful things to say about us during his welcome (thanks, Joe!) as he opened up the special event for top truck accident attorneys and Symposium speakers.

ATAA Board of Regents dinner

On Thursday evening, we co-hosted dinner with Streamlined Record Retrieval at Lonesome Dove for a memorable experience with attorneys from Colorado to Canada. (Shout-out to Kevin Swenson, who didn’t make the group photo but stopped by earlier in the evening.)

ATAA dinner event hosted by Hennessey Digital
When conference content got underway, the main area for education sessions was jam-packed throughout the event, and most speakers’ sessions were standing-room only. As always with legal industry events, we loved the “live” aspect of it that’s impossible to replicate on video calls.

general session at ATAA

In sessions, attorneys learned how to get the best settlements in truck accident cases, how to use imagery and storytelling to paint a picture for juries, establishing liability, and best practices on hiring medical experts. Attendees were abuzz with excitement and new knowledge on how to attract and leverage high-value truck accident cases for their firms.

We got to see Janelle Bailey kick off Saturday morning of the conference with a general session on trial tactics and the immediate steps to take in a truck accident case.

ATAA speaker Janelle Bailey

The ATAA is one of our favorite organizations to partner with because its members are so tight-knit and engaged. Lori and the ATAA team do a great job executing their annual symposium and we appreciate the partnership with their team.

And on a fun note, our friend Taylor Welch from EvenUp braved the mechanical bull at the Friday night social at Bull & Bowl and lived to tell the tale!

Where we’ll be next

Fall conference season is in full swing right now, and our team is making appearances at legal industry events through the end of 2022.

This week, our team is in Vegas for the fall iteration of Mass Torts Made Perfect. Soon after comes Trial Lawyers University also in Las Vegas, followed by the Crisp Game Changers Summit in Atlanta and The Business of Law in Scottsdale.

ATAA Board of Regents members: Look for Rob Coleman at the retreat coming up in December. He was bowling strikes on Friday night—did you catch anyone else on the mechanical bull? Send us the pics!

Fall conference season is in full swing and we were thrilled to be back in Las Vegas for another legal marketing conference. This time, we checked into the Wynn for Brain Trust Legal Group’s first-ever Legal Marketing & Management Summit, hosted by “The Hammer,” Darryl Isaacs.

Hennessey Digital at Legal Mastermind Summit

What is the Legal Marketing & Management Summit?

The Legal Marketing & Management Summit is a legal mastermind event and a cornerstone gathering bringing together leading attorneys to collaborate and learn from each other. From legal marketing and building a personal brand to managing a remote team, this event focuses on strategies, best practices, growth, and relationships for top lawyers.

Isaacs & Isaacs co-founder Darryl Isaacs hosted a world-class event that we were honored to attend and support as a Platinum Sponsor. Not only is Darryl our friend, but he’s a leader in the legal marketing space and the billion-dollar legal mastermind behind this event.

What we love most about Darryl is that he truly believes in helping people, which was evident throughout the entire event. His focus for this conference was to enable knowledge-sharing among the best of the best, and each session was designed to help, educate, and empower by learning through the successes and failures shared by some of the top attorneys and best legal marketing minds across the country.

This was the first summit for Brain Trust Legal Group and everything was executed flawlessly. From thorough communications before the event to meticulous organization and planning during the show (shout out to Isaacs & Isaacs Marketing Director Haley O’Neal), it was a valuable experience—and one of our new favorite legal industry events.

Legal Mastermind Summit highlights

The summit kicked off with a mixer by the pool, where Hennessey Digital hosted a private haunted cabana adorned with festive décor to usher in “spooky season.” It was a memorable experience for attendees and drew people in for conversations and, of course, photo ops with haunting guests who made a special appearance.

When the conference began, it was full of non-stop learning opportunities. Darryl Isaacs kicked off the summit by speaking on Branding Your Niche in Your Market. With other educational sessions including Becoming a National Name by notable civil rights attorney Ben Crump, attendees were never at a loss for insights and new ideas to apply toward their practices.

Hennessey Digital’s CEO Jason Hennessey was a guest speaker and shared helpful tips about marketing for law firms during the Marketing Q&A alongside Harlan Schillinger, Ben Fisher, and Steven Rabinovici.

Jason Hennessey panel speaker at Legal Mastermind Summit

One key takeaway for lawyers from this session was that it takes time, hard work, and investment to build a brand. We loved that each member of the panel wasn’t afraid to share not only their victories, but also the realistic challenges that come along the road to success.

What we loved about Brain Trust Legal Group’s Legal Marketing & Management Summit

This entire conference revolved around making connections and creating relationships. We had many valuable conversations with attendees and other vendors, and the Hennessey Digital booth became a networking hub on the event floor.

Attending many legal conferences throughout the year it is always nice to see familiar faces of friends and industry peers, including Andrew Pickett and Adam Smallow.

And it was a real treat to be close to the Russell Media booth, where friend of Hennessey Digital Luke Russell and team hosted an episode of the Lawful Good podcast right from the event floor!

Scott Shrum at Legal Mastermind Summit

Major themes from the Legal Mastermind Summit

With the focus of this conference being marketing, it’s easy to say that was the hot topic. Taking it a step further, these are the three key themes we saw in education sessions, speaker panels, and conversations with attendees:

  • Multimedia content. Lawyers were interested in the value that audio and video content brings, and some even had their own photographers and videographers capturing content during the event.
  • Alternative search options. Attorneys were interested in how Gen Z searches for legal help. This included discussions on YouTube and TikTok and what the legal space looks like in search outside of Google.
  • Google updates. This was super timely given the back-to-back Google updates within the last month. Our VP of SEO Steve Guberman broke down Google’s September 2022 Updates in a recent post, so our team was well-prepared to discuss this with attendees.

Where we’ll be next

Be on the lookout for Hennessey Digital coming to a legal conference near you! Our next stop will be in Austin, TX at ATAA, and we’ll hop on a plane back to Las Vegas to attend the fall iteration of MTMP.

We cap off October back in Vegas for Trial Lawyers University, and our team will be at select events in late 2022. Hennessey Digital is here, there, and everywhere to educate, illuminate, connect, and discuss all things SEO!

The Hennessey Digital team just returned from Vegas where we had an amazing time at the 2022 CAALA conference. We met with some incredible Los Angeles-based attorneys and fellow vendors and learned how to turn lemons into lemonade. 🍋

Hennessey Digital at CAALA 2022

CAALA Vegas 2022 highlights

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022, the annual CAALA convention is held in Las Vegas every year and is one of the annual highlights for LA-based law firms.

From large firms to solo practicing attorneys, lawyers get to experience a packed weekend of mingling with industry partners and legal service vendors. They could also earn 17 hours of continuing education credits at the conference.

Speaking of learning, we never know when we’ll need to rely on one of our core principles. Right from the start our team discovered that the booth got lost on its way to the conference.

So what do you do when you don’t have a booth and the conference is about to start? You pivot and make the best of the situation. Without missing a beat, Director of Business Development Rob Coleman and CEO Jason Hennessey put together what we did have to decorate our booth space.

Turns out, all you need is a stash of Law Firm SEO books, our Hennessey Digital tablecloth, and a makeshift sign to be ready for CAALA.

Hennessey Digital booth at CAALA

While our official booth never did make an appearance at CAALA, the quick thinking from our team turned our space into a conversation piece.

CAALA attendees slowed down to read and laugh at our makeshift sign and we got a chance to educate attendees on SEO and how it helps law firms grow. Our minor booth catastrophe was our core principle of “stay nimble; never stop learning” at work!

Makeshift CAALA booth sign

Why we love CAALA

CAALA is a legal industry conference open to any consumer-based attorney in Los Angeles, from personal injury to family law, bankruptcy, and employment law. We look forward to CAALA every year because their team makes the event a lot of fun!

This was our third year attending and it did not disappoint (check out our CAALA 2021 recap for a look at last year’s events). The 2022 welcome reception was quite a party, with ‘80s-themed everything. From wardrobe to entertainment, we felt like we were transported back in time—we even managed to spot Marty McFly and Freddie Mercury.

Marty McFly and Freddie Mercury

Once the conference took off, however, attendees were serious about the content at CAALA, attending sessions dedicated to trial skills, practice areas for both personal injury and non-personal injury firms, as well as learning essential legal skills. CAALA 2022 was full of educational information for Los Angeles attorneys and plenty of opportunities to meet potential vendors.

CAALA sessions 2022

Conference attendees were not only serious about learning; they were equally serious about digital marketing. CAALA guests circulated the exhibit hall so much that we never experienced a lull in speaking with attorneys about SEO. We even ran out of all copies of Jason’s book Law Firm SEO by the morning of the last day of the conference!

Our team enjoyed mingling with attorneys and vendors all three days of CAALA. Our Director of Sales Brian Mossman even managed to snag a photo with famed Los Angeles attorney Jacob Emrani.

Brian Mossman and Jacob Emrani

Jason’s son Zach Hennessey was in attendance this year, shadowing Jason for his very first legal industry conference. Zach is so personable and enthusiastically jumped right in, engaging with attendees and discussing Hennessey Digital’s services. (Thanks, Zach!)

Zach Hennessey at CAALA 2022

Major themes from CAALA 2022

The major theme from conversations with the attendees at CAALA was less about what’s happening in the legal world and more about marketing and SEO. Naturally, we loved it!

We got into the details with LA attorneys about what SEO means and how digital marketing techniques can help lawyers expand and grow their law firms. One great resource we were able to give to many guests was Jason’s book, Law Firm SEO.

No matter the size of the firm, Law Firm SEO is a proven tool to help both solo attorneys and large practices get a solid understanding of law firm digital marketing and how to get more leads and cases.

Upcoming legal industry events

Fall conference season is in full swing! Our team will be traveling all over the country attending the hottest legal conventions.

First, be on the lookout for Hennessey Digital at The Legal Mastermind Summit, the much-anticipated event from Billion-Dollar Legal Mastermind leader Darryl Isaacs, also in Las Vegas at the end of September.

Coming up in October, we’re at ATAA, Mass Torts Made Perfect, and Trial Lawyers University. Hennessey Digital will be at select events in November and December, so stay tuned.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind: hot off the tails of PILMMA Super Summit, Lanier Trial Academy, and MaxLawCon, our team hopped back on the plane and jetted off to Seattle for the 2022 AAJ Annual Convention.

Scott, Rob, and Cindy in Seattle for the AAJ Annual Convention

For this event, our President & COO Scott Shrum, Director of Business Development Rob Coleman, and Senior Director of Marketing Cindy Kerber Spellman represented Hennessey Digital at the annual summer meeting of the American Association for Justice.

What is The American Association for Justice?

The American Association for Justice “delivers exceptional education, unparalleled advocacy, and a dedicated community of trial lawyers fighting for justice.” Our team witnessed this firsthand at the 2022 AAJ Annual Convention, or Justice 2022.

AAJ Annual Convention (or “AAJ” as the event is commonly known) is the summertime meeting of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) membership. As we learned at AAJ last year during our summer 2021 legal industry events circuit, the American Association for Justice lobbies for legislation that helps victims of accidents or negligence. In essence, the organization helps attorneys help more people.

Marion Munley and her sons

Our Experience at the AAJ Annual Convention

To kick things off at the 2022 AAJ Annual Convention, the Hennessey Digital team enjoyed meeting with lawyers from all across the country at the welcome reception at the Seattle Space Needle. And it was an extra special treat to snap a photo with the Munley Law team in front of the iconic landmark.

Hennessey Digital and Munley & Munley

The previous evening, Brian Garelli hosted a fantastic dinner where our team enjoyed getting to know Dean Chase of Trusted Legal Partners, Anne Andrews of Andrews & Thornton, and Yari Lawson of Lawson Law.

The next three days were filled with spending time in the exhibit hall and engaging with so many high-profile, high-performing attorneys and industry partners. We had the chance to see some familiar faces, including Luke Russell of Lawful Good Podcast, and Rob Coleman got to hold one of the cutest attendees we’ve met at any legal conference!

Luke Russell of Lawful Good Podcast

Rob Coleman in AAJ Annual Convention exhibit hall

Everyone we met was so kind and engaging, happily sharing their stories of how they got into law. We were able to get a sense of how passionate they are about serving their communities.

The entire leadership team of the AAJ Annual Convention was present and engaging in the exhibit halls. We loved getting to meet incoming President Tad Thomas, as well as, other leading members, Sean Domnick, John Bey, and Marion Munley. It was a really special treat to meet Congressman Matt Cartwright who wrote the legislation leading to the Camp Lejeune lawsuits.

Hennessey Digital at AAJ Annual Convention

When we attended AAJ in 2021,  it was still early days of being back at live events after COVID had started. And while it’s been over a year since that conference, everyone still echoes how great it is to be together in person.

Hennessey Digital and Congressman Matt Cartwright

As our time in Seattle wound down, our team was able to sneak away for some sightseeing and taste some delicious Northwest fare. But of course what makes any culinary experience special is not the food, but the company, and our time at the AAJ annual convention was no exception.

Rob Coleman in Seattle

AAJ is one of our favorites because spending time with this group of lawyers always broadens our knowledge and keeps us updated on legal industry events, trends, and shifts. When we can speak the language of our clients, we can understand them better and it helps us serve them better!

Summer 2022 AAJ Annual Convention Takeaways

What differentiates the AAJ Annual Convention from other legal industry conferences is how invested the attendees are. Not only do the lawyers take their educational programming extremely seriously, but participation was also high in specific legal practice discussion groups.

It was a world of knowledge-sharing from AAJ leaders and its membership. With sessions like Tools for Today’s Trial Lawyer, Nursing Home Litigation Group, and Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group, AAJ is a meeting of top legal minds looking to learn and grow.

The Hennessey Digital team came away from the AAJ annual convention with these key themes (and a tip:)

  • Courts are back in person in many places. A handful of attorneys told us how good it feels to be back in court. However, this causes a previously unforeseen issue…
  • Juries wearing masks causes complications. While being back in person is terrific, it comes with certain challenges, such as not being able to read jurors’ faces as easily with their masks on.
  • Register for conferences early. The talk going around the AAJ Annual Convention was the influx of registrations 2 weeks before. Be sure to help your convention staff out and register as early as possible.

Scott Shrum and Rob Coleman in Seattle

Upcoming legal industry events

Now that legal industry conferences are on a short break, our team is busy integrating the knowledge and takeaways from the AAJ Summer Convention. We’ll be at CAALA in early September, and we’re already planning for the AAJ Winter Convention in early 2023.

Sun, sand, beaches… sweet summertime has just begun, but our team has a different take on summer travels. We’ve already made appearances at three different legal conferences this summer including MaxLawCon and PILMMA Super Summit, and we’re just getting started.

These conferences are attended by some of the best-known names in the legal industry. The Hennessey Digital team is honored to be a part of it, strengthening relationships and making new connections at every event we attend.

MaxLawCon (Maximum Lawyer Convention)

We kicked off our summer conference tour at MaxLawCon, aka the Maximum Lawyer Convention. It’s always nice to see the Midwest take center stage for a legal event, and St. Louis also happens to be one of our remote team member hub cities!

MaxLawCon banner at Maximum Lawyer Convention

MaxLawCon was an intimate event with lawyers from all across the country. The two-day conference was filled with brief sessions of quick, snackable content, and the central theme across the conference was how to be successful in every part of your business and thrive as a law firm.

For MaxLawCon members, the focus is on not just where their firms are today, but thinking long-term and where they want to grow into the future.

With sessions like Breaking Limited Mindset by John Ting, Niche Your Way to Notoriety by Nicole Christie, Unlocking The Key Strategies To Building Your Law Firm Empire by Jessica Gonifas, and Managing Client Expectations by Bill Farias, it was clear to see that law firm marketing was a key theme in everyone’s conversations.

Jim Aspell reading Law Firm SEO

We discovered what a small world the legal industry can be when our Senior Director of Marketing Cindy Kerber Spellman ran into Jim Aspell of The Law Offices of James Aspell, who happened to be reading Law Firm SEO by Jason Hennessey!

This year was Hennessey Digital’s first time at MaxLawCon. It was an incredible event organized by brand manager Becca Eberhart, and attorneys Jim Hacking and Tyson Mutrux are outstanding individuals who have cultivated a tight-knit, community-based conference.

Attendees at MaxLawCon

It’s always interesting to be at a legal conference when a major legal trial is on every news station, and this is what we discovered during our time at MaxLawCon. The Depp v. Heard trial was in full swing and we were able to hear the lawyers’ take on this case. As a digital marketing agency, it’s fascinating to get a peek into the legal world!

Lanier Trial Academy

It’s tough to say which legal events are our favorites, but Lanier Trial Academy definitely makes the list as an annual conference that we don’t ever want to miss! Over the three days, lawyers get intense training from one of the greatest trial lawyers in the country, Mark Lanier.

The universe seemed to be against our team, with flights being severely delayed to and from the event. Our Director of Sales Brian Mossman’s luggage was lost and he didn’t get into his hotel until after 1:00 AM, but nothing would stop our team from showing up!

Paul Faust at Lanier Trial Academy golf outing

Day one of the event consisted of the golf tour where Brian teamed up with Dan Ambrose of Trial Lawyers University and Paul Faust, aka “Cool Guy Paul”, playing 14 holes in 100 degrees under the Houston sun.

This event was not only a good networking opportunity, but it also raised money for the Braden Bailess foundation. Director of Business Development Rob Coleman chose the indoor offering for day one and toured Mark Lanier’s theological library. A truly impressive collection, it houses one of the only seven replicas of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Mark Lanier's theological library

It’s not just fun and games at Lanier Trial Academy, though. The conference is jam-packed with educational sessions and learning from Mark Lanier himself. We noticed that the sessions are so in-depth and captivating that people hardly got up from their seats except for scheduled breaks. Mark Lanier did a great job incorporating props during sessions that encouraged engagement from attendees and aided with visualization.

Attendees at Lanier Trial Academy

We had a terrific time networking in the evenings. Paul Liebman from X Social Media invited our team out to an excellent dinner and Thomas Neel from Multus Medical hosted receptions each evening in the Presidential Suite of the Marriott Marquis in Houston.

The hot topic at Lanier was the Camp Lejeune lawsuit. This group of attorneys deal with a lot of mass torts, and while there is a little hesitation to jump into this one as it’s still early days, everyone’s attitude seemed to be to go full force ahead on this case!

PILMMA Super Summit

The Personal Injury Lawyer Marketing & Management Association’s annual event, or PILMMA, was attended by the country’s powerhouse attorneys. And while we could say the theme was “planes, trains, and automobiles” due to continual travel issues, it was impressive to see how many attorneys and industry partners were committed to making an appearance.

Luggage backup at airport on the way to PILMMA Super Summit

Anybody who’s anybody in law firm marketing was present and the event was well-attended. Everyone we spoke to had a great experience learning about buying and selling law firms, another hot topic at PILMMA Super Summit this year. Each session was so diverse and well-developed, incorporating high-value content with actionable takeaways.

Rob and Brian at PILMMA Super Summit

New Orleans cuisine

We enjoyed the world-class New Orleans cuisine and ate at some of the best restaurants in the country. Hennessey Digital hosted a dinner at Commander’s Palace, and on the final evening of PILMMA Super Summit, Hennessey Digital and Luke Russell’s team at the Lawful Good podcast socialized together at Galatoire’s. While Luke was unable to attend, Jason brought him to dinner virtually! Luke is a great friend of Jason’s and has featured him on an episode of Lawful Good, which you can listen to here.

Brian Mossman, Darryl Isaacs, Rob Coleman, Jason Hennessey at PILMMA Super Summit

As the event came to a close, we couldn’t leave New Orleans without spending time with some familiar faces. We met with Darryl Isaacs, Rob Levine, Jeff Nadrich, Chad Dudley, Alex Valencia, and Steven Smith, and it’s always a pleasure spending time with industry partners and legal titans.

Our key takeaways

  • The Camp Lejeune water contamination lawsuit was hotly discussed at Lanier Trial Academy and at PILMMA Super Summit. Major mass tort cases are always on people’s minds, and this one was mentioned frequently at both events.
  • Education is a big focus area at all of these conferences. Attorneys from every state make the time to learn from the best and focus on how to grow their businesses.
  • Marketing for law firms played a major role in this round of conferences. It is critical for growth and the ability to thrive in the future.
  • Travel issues can’t stop the best of the best from these legal conferences. They see the value these events bring to their business and are committed to being present.

Where we’ll be next

But summer isn’t over, which means we aren’t done traveling. Be on the lookout for Hennessey Digital at Law-Di-Gras in Carlsbad, CA and at AAJ in Seattle in the coming weeks.

Last month, our Director of Sales Brian Mossman and I packed up and flew to Dallas for a meeting of the minds of the legal industry.

Our friend and client Darryl Isaacs is a leader in the legal marketing space, and his Brain Trust Legal Group is an exclusive gathering of top law firms. The billion-dollar legal mastermind that we met in Dallas represents the highest-achieving law firms in the US.

Darryl Isaacs with Jason Hennessey and Brian Mossman

What is the billion-dollar legal mastermind?

Firms in this elite group must have at least one billion dollars in verdicts and settlements for their clients. With these kinds of numbers, the billion-dollar legal mastermind truly is the titans of the legal industry.

The most aggressive marketers in the country are in this group. And because they aren’t in competing markets, they exchange information freely on what’s worked for them and what hasn’t.

Legal legends like Jim Adler, Gordon McKernan, and Bobby Saadian share their tactics and strategies. Industry leaders like Mike Morse, Richard Harris, Larry Disparti, and Paul Harding get vulnerable about their failures.

Jason Hennessey and Jim Adler of the billion-dollar legal mastermind

These business leaders are bold and unafraid to take risks. This billion-dollar legal mastermind group represents the brightest minds in law and marketing. And when they collaborate, they take their law firms to the next level.

The secrets to their success

When this group gets together, each person presents on a different topic. One law firm owner might talk about billboard and outdoor advertising strategies. Another might present on digital marketing or their latest TV campaign.

Billion-dollar legal mastermind members are so vulnerable and open with sharing what they know in these meetings. They also bring along their intake teams, marketing teams, and support staff to network and learn from each other. In my opinion, this is what makes these law firms so successful.

Brian and I couldn’t be in the room as presentations were happening as vendor partners aren’t allowed for confidentiality reasons. But it was still a total honor to be invited to meet and network with these accomplished business owners.

Hennessey Digital coordinated and sponsored a private dinner in the Dallas Cowboys locker room for the group. It was an incredible experience to literally sit inside football history while being a part of legal history in those rooms.

The more I’m exposed to these masterminds and the amazing individuals in them, the more I’m convinced that these law firm owners are successful because of who they surround themselves with. This is such a smart group of business people, yet they’re so down-to-earth and humble about their achievements.

These groups have been meeting for several years, and all involved are grateful to Darryl Isaacs for bringing us together. Everyone has so much respect for him and what he does for the legal community, and his generous nature is inspiring.

Learn from the billion-dollar legal mastermind in person

This fall, the secrets and strategies of these billion-dollar firms will be revealed at the upcoming Legal Mastermind Summit in Las Vegas. Jim Adler, Mike Morse, and our client Ben Crump are featured speakers, and I’ll be speaking about digital marketing services.

If you’re a law firm that wants to learn from the top minds in legal marketing, you’ll definitely want to attend this event. And Darryl Isaacs is giving his friends and colleagues a 300-dollar discount with code BRAINTRUST—register using this code at https://legalmastermindsummit.com.

Will I see you at the Legal Mastermind Summit this September? If so, tweet me at @JasonHennessey and tell me what questions you have about law firm digital marketing and SEO that I can answer on stage.

Last week, our Director of Sales Brian Mossman and I had the opportunity to sit in on an exclusive mastermind meeting in Louisville. The group was assembled by Darryl Isaacs, a client, friend, and highly regarded personal injury attorney.

Why Darryl Isaacs is a Legal Marketing Leader

Darryl Isaacs (standing)

Known as “The Hammer” due to his relentless pursuit of results for his clients, Darryl Isaacs is the owner of the largest personal injury firm in Kentucky. This mastermind we attended is a private group of about 10 fast-growing law firms in different markets who get together and share best practices, tactics, and strategies for growing their businesses.

When I asked Darryl about the genesis of these masterminds and the value they bring to law firms, he shared this, along with an example of the business knowledge and collective wisdom of the group.

“The power of a mastermind group is in its people and their willingness to share. I think of myself as more of a facilitator who brings great minds together, and I challenge them to be vulnerable and share their weaknesses and deficiencies so we all can learn and overcome them together.

“A great example of this occurred at my most recent mastermind group last week. An attorney explained what we were all doing wrong on social media: we were going for the sale right as they were coming to our door instead of inviting them in, getting them comfortable, and making them part of our funnel.”

The power of a mastermind group is in its people and their willingness to share. I think of myself as more of a facilitator who brings great minds together, and I challenge them to be vulnerable and share their weaknesses and deficiencies so we all can learn and overcome them together.

Darryl Isaacs

Darryl Isaacs has assembled three mastermind group levels based on law firm revenue. These groups are so vulnerable and open with one another about what they know and things they’ve learned that work well. The business of owning and operating a law firm is a different skill set from practicing law, and I admire this group’s willingness to share what they know to help others.

Darryl Isaacs mastermind meeting room

What I love most about working with Darryl Isaacs is our shared values of vulnerability, transparency, and constant improvement on what we do. Like me, he values and invests in personal development and believes in mentoring others and giving back to the communities that support you.

Hennessey Digital was proud to sponsor the group dinner, where everyone had a great time connecting and sharing with each other.

Why Darryl Isaacs is a Legal Marketing Leader

This week, Brian and I are attending a mastermind meeting in Dallas with billion-dollar law firms. It’s exciting and gratifying to see law firms of this caliber come together to learn and grow together.

There’s a reason why the law firms participating in these masterminds are some of the biggest in the country. These rooms are filled with so much brain power that it’s unsurprising to see these are the largest, most successful firms out there.

Why Darryl Isaacs is a Legal Marketing Leader

Mastermind attendees know that law firm digital marketing is a different animal. From outdoor marketing and TV ads to SEO and paid media, law firms face difficult challenges in standing out from the competition to land the high-value cases everyone wants.

We’re also very excited to attend the Legal Mastermind Summit coming up this September in  Las Vegas. Titans of the legal industry come together at this event to collaborate on fundamental and high-level marketing efforts.

Darryl Isaacs loves legal marketing as much as we do at Hennessey Digital. Our partnership is truly a perfect match, and we value our relationship with people like him who encourage us to keep getting better.

Our team was here, there, and everywhere this month, with multiple conferences happening in the legal industry. From Mass Torts Made Perfect to marketing beyond the legal industry, the Hennessey Digital crew was well-represented at select events.

Each live event we attend has a distinct vibe and area of focus, and last week our team was at three separate events to educate others and strengthen relationships with clients, prospective customers, vendor partners, and friends.

We even made our debut at a new event. Read on to see where Hennessey Studios made a big splash!

MTMP Spring 2022

Hennessey Digital was well-represented at the MTMP Spring 2022 seminar, held at the Wynn in Las Vegas. In addition to the usual suspects, our CFO Michele Patrick and Senior Director of People Success Jill Wenk also attended the conference.

We love that MTMP is a relationships- and networking-focused event, and we got to catch up with many existing and future clients throughout the week. Our founder and CEO Jason Hennessey was particularly delighted to see Keith Givens, founder of MTMP and managing partner of The Cochran Firm, with a copy of Law Firm SEO in his hand as they saw each other in passing.

We teamed up with our friends at X Social Media for the event, and enjoyed talking with clients, friends, and fellow vendors on the exhibitor floor. But the most valuable conversations took place during meals, casual conversations, and parties throughout the week.

Hennessey Digital Director of Sales Brian Mossman met with lawyers to discuss law firm SEO and digital marketing at a poolside cabana, and we hosted a memorable four-hour dinner with clients and friends at on of the Wynn’s finest dining destinations, Lakeside.

Don Worley hosted an incredible party one night where he pulled out all the stops, and we loved the Final Four watch party with our friends at Top Class Actions on a different night of MTMP.

Our President & COO Scott Shrum was even invited up on stage to assist illusionist David Blaine for a trick at the evening’s magic show event. Nothing compared to the SEO magic we produce for clients, but a thrilling moment for Scott and the team!

And once again, our friend Mikey came through for us with a dinner reservation at Carbone. (Thanks, Mikey!)

Mass Torts Made Perfect is without a doubt a favorite event series with our team, and it’s because it’s always a great time for lawyers and exhibitors to connect and have an awesome experience.

(And if you’re looking for our latest, check out our recap of the MTMP fall 2022 iteration!)

Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys

While the majority of our Hennessey Digital representation was at MTMP, Director of Business Development Rob Coleman manned our booth nearby at the ATAA New Trucking Lawyers Division Bootcamp event held at the Rio Hotel.

This bootcamp was devoted to attorneys new to the trucking accident practice area and provided attendees the resources and education they need to be successful. ATAA helps lawyers establish their path in the truck accident realm, teaching them the fundamentals and what it looks like to work a truck accident case and how to best serve clients.

Hennessey Digital values our partnership with ATAA group and we look forward to the 2022 ATAA Annual Symposium coming up this October in Austin.

B2B Marketing Expo

While Hennessey Digital’s executives and sales teams were in Vegas, our MarComms leadership team traveled to Los Angeles for the B2B Marketing Expo held at the LA Convention Center.

Billed as the number-one event in the U.S. for business marketing, the B2B Marketing Expo marked the official conference debut of Hennessey Studios. Jason Hennessey spoke about modern SEO tips on the first day of the event and fielded many great questions from marketers and business owners about SEO and what it can do for their businesses.

Senior Director of Marketing Cindy Kerber Spellman and I worked the booth, and it was a fantastic two days exhibiting and speaking with people about their businesses as we educated attendees on Hennessey Studios’ offerings.

Everyone loved our branding and giveaways (Hennessey Studios-branded packs of gum) We even had people taking selfies at the booth, which was an unexpected yet welcome surprise.

You never know who you’re going to meet (especially in LA) and the Expo did not disappoint. We enjoyed getting to know up-and-coming creative consultant, director and entertainment visionary Winston T. Marshall and his team, as well as Maika Le and Eric Wheelwright, whose innovative Smart Tech Menu platform is changing the dining experience for restaurants.

Key Takeaways

With every conference we attend, we like to reflect on the event and extract key themes and takeaways for our clients and partners. These are the “big ideas” from our April 2022 events:

  • MTMP is one of the premier legal industry events for networking. Just like the National Trial Lawyers Summit, Mass Torts Made Perfect is primarily an event for socializing and connecting with new and old contacts in mass torts. If you’re an attorney who wants to see and be seen in this space, MTMP is the place to do it.
  • AI is changing how law firms do business. As in every industry, artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the speed with which businesses can grow and adapt. We discovered through conversations at MTMP and ATAA that law firms are using AI in various facets of their firms, including human resources to help source and recruit new attorneys.
  • The book Law Firm SEO is becoming Hennessey Digital’s calling card. We were thrilled to see Keith Givens with a copy—we even heard that Jason’s book is now required reading for lawyers who work for him! Law Firm SEO continues to be a valuable resource for lawyers and non-legal professionals to learn how to grow their businesses through search engine optimization.
  • The big mass torts are Paraquat and baby formula recalls. Attorneys go to MTMP to find out about the next big mass tort before it gets announced. We learned that funding companies and private equity firms are soliciting firms to finance these cases for an investment stake, which is an interesting development we’ll continue to follow.
  • Every business needs quality multimedia content. In conversations we had with business owners, entrepreneurs, marketers, and content creators at the B2B Marketing Expo, everyone agreed that quality video and audio content is necessary to attract and maintain an audience online. This is what Hennessey Studios is all about, and it was a thrill to share this with attendees.

Where We’ll Be Next

Look for us at Lanier Trial Academy in addition to other key events this summer before we gear up for a busy fall. Our schedule is packed and we’re excited to learn, connect, and deliver value at legal industry conferences through the end of 2022.

And later this month, the full Hennessey Digital leadership staff gathers in Austin for its biannual retreat and planning sessions. We’re boldly moving towards our Vivid Vision and we’re not showing any signs of slowing down.

We’ll be picking back up at live events this summer, but you can always catch us on social media. Follow our Instagram and see where we’ll be next!
